British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC)

The British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) is part of the Centre for Environmental Data Archival (CEDA) at the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), and is core funded via the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, a collaborative centre of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

CEDA supports the atmospheric science community in the UK and abroad through the provision of data management and discovery services, and develop tools and services to aid data preservation, curation, discovery and visualisation. In 2009 CEDA delivered in excess of 100 TB of data in 17 million files to nearly 3000 distinct users. CEDA also became "petascale", with in excess of 1 PB of spinning disk backed up by the Atlas Tape Store.

The BADC team will be one of the "separate" scientific communities, with distinct use cases and different metadata research data models, which will assist in building the required generic model and tools in WP6, WP7 and WP8. The BADC will also assist in parameterizing instances of the OpenAIREplus interlinking tools for their specific disciplines/domains showcasing that the generic infrastructure will be able to work with specific cases, and in designing the end user tools for enhanced publications visualization and interaction.
