Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony - Digital Library - Project details (AdW Digital)
The Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony (AdW) supervises a large number of long-term scientific projects, most of which are interdisciplinary in nature. As the digitisation of research progresses, the implementation of the resulting complex IT structures is increasingly geared to partners such as the Göttingen State and University Library.
The Göttingen State and University Library is one of the largest academic libraries in Germany. It is also the library of the AdW. As a globally recognised competence centre for the digital library, it provides its users with a wide range of innovative services far beyond Göttingen.
The AdW and the Göttingen State and University Library can look back on many years of cooperation. Within the framework of this cooperation, the two institutions are working closely together to establish the 'Digital Library' for the AdW. The 'Digital Library' will be displayed in the AdW's web-based portal, where all information about the Academy, its projects and documents will be presented in one place.
An important goal in the implementation of the AdW portal is the sustainability of the content presented, which is reflected in various areas. On the one hand, both the web content management system (TYPO3) and the open access document server 'res doctae' (DSpace) are constantly being adapted to current security and system requirements. On the other hand, for the documents contained in 'res doctae', all necessary steps for long-term availability are taken, including the possibility of permanent referencing by handle IDs or bitstream reservation of the documents.
With 'res doctae', a document server is available that certifies the quality of the service with the DINI certificate and enables extensive search functions in the full texts. The documents are transferred to long-term archiving and can be integrated into other services (e. g. OPAC) via standardized interfaces (e. g. OAI-PMH).
During the implementation of the 'tool mode' in the AdW portal, an interface was created for projects that makes it possible to edit and present database structures with a technical application logic. These developments, which have been tested on selected projects, can be adapted for further projects and used by them.
